In California, accessible routes such as ramps, walkways, and sidewalks must follow strict slope guidelines to ensure safety and accessibility for all.
Running Slope (Length of Ramp): Cannot exceed 1:12 (8.33%). This means for every inch of rise, there must be at least 12 inches of run.
Cross Slope (Width of Ramp or Walkway): Cannot exceed 2% (1:50) to provide smooth, level travel across the surface.
Landings: Level landings are required at the top and bottom of ramps, ensuring safe rest and turning areas.
